Kaffe Matthews' performance happened at during Lovebytes 2000 at The National Centre for Popular Music. The building had opened just over a year before on 1 March 1999 - and closed shortly after this performance in June 2000. This event, and the Absynthesis event, in the bar later the same night, were one of the few (and possibly the last) events in the building when it was still a museum. Kaffe's event happened in the drum that was upstairs and front/right. This space was set up as a music performance space in-the-round, with the aim for immersive 360 listening. Seats surrounded a central performance area, where Kaffe performed from.
Following this, as discussions were still being held as to what to do with the building and its potential futures. Lovebytes were approached to consider taking it over to run it as a live music venue. But we had neither the funding or people capacity to do this. Following its closure, we also held three more events in the building though - Japanorama (a touring performance by electoronic musicians from Japan), an interactive boxing performance work for the Pitchbend Programme and a performance by Autechre.
